Surf Instructor

About the position

At Progress we love to show people the beauty of surfing and of the ocean. Whether they are 6 or 66, everyone can join a surf class. As we are a hostel we only have a few lessons per day. So this means a whole lot of time to surf for yourself!

Tasks & Responsibilites

  • Giving practical surf lessons in small groups (max. 8 people)
  • Teach at beginner and intermediate level
  • Preparing your classes and following up on them
  • Care & maintenance of the equipment together with the surf shop assistants

Skills & Requirements

  • Approval from ‘Direction de la Jeunesse et des Sports’ in France. (We can explain you how to get it) 
  • ISA level 1 Surf Instructor qualification (must be up to date)
  • Valid lifeguard certificate
  • Medical Certificate
  • Criminal Record Check (must be up to date)
  • European passport or valid working visa
  • A few months experience 
  • Fluent in English (French is a bonus!!)


  • Free accommodation: a private tent with mattress and bedding
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday
  • Free use of surf and hostel equipment
  • Working under the terms of a short-term French contract
